The mission of the Foundation is to promote innovative approaches and academic excellence in the Oakland Public Schools by supporting initiatives and providing grants that enrich the quality of our K-8th grades as well as encourage community-wide interest and involvement in our schools.

The Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that supports and enhances the education of the children in all four schools in our district. The OEF operates independently from the Board of Education and the Oakland School District, however, we consult with these stakeholders when deciding which projects to support. All projects supported by the Foundation are approved by vote of our Board of Trustees.
